Formal Sppeedwear – “Who Needs Spain Ball”

There’s never been much noise on this trio Stateside, but UK outfit Formal Sppeedwear have been blistering the post punk palette for the past few years in all the right ways. The band follows up their debut EP with a formal announcement of an album this year. Included are interim standout singles “Hit ’n’ Run” and “Wait (Hatchet Gets A New Hide).” The band keeps the momentum today with the silvered New Wave wobble of “Who Needs Spain Ball.” Toppling between the nerviness of David Byrne and the opaline shadows of XTC, the new single pushes a synth-forward squiggle that’s a lot of fun. The band’s debut album, Punch Card, is out September 11th from Melodic Records.
