The Hobknobs – “Easier Listening”
Been kicking myself for missing the first single from The Hobknobs last year, but that’s only built a nice bit of anticipation for this debut from the band this week. The second offshoot of Lewsberg to hit the racks this year, The Hobknobs brings together the band’s Arie van Vilet with Yaël Dekker of The Klittens. Not as heavy as Lewsberg, not as angular as Magazin, The Hobknobs still share a love of pop at its spare and stripped core. The first single, “Easier Listening” snags a sunny disposition and staples it to buoyant strums, trading verses between Arie and Yaël with a breezy austerity that brings to mind Young Marble Giants. The new record culls together songs from their debut EP, along with a comp track on A Colourful Storm and a whole host of new gems. The debut, Helmets Off, is out June 25th from 12xU.
