Space Jaguar – “The Szilard King”

This band’s been bubbling at the edge of my consciousness and as their fourth release nears this year, it promises to be their best yet. Songwriter Mark Grassick and Scottish producer/multi-instrumentalist Andrew Taylor (Dropkick ,The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness) return to the studio, a shadow of Westerberg, Fanclub, and the most melodic ends of the ‘90s jangle-pop spectrum hanging heavy over their heads. The first single is big on strums and saturated harmonies. A melancholy air pervades until those final moments when the guitars grow three sizes and fill the speakers with a light singe. The band’s new album, Command Post, is out September 18th.
