The Tubs – “Stoop To Me”

Work commitments have kept the site a bit slower these days, but there’s always time to tout The Tubs. The UK band is on the come up this year, having already hammered out two certified classic albums for Trouble in Mind and an EP for Prefect. Now they make the move to Merge, a fitting home for their most effervescent album yet. The latest single finds the band wrapped in a blanket of jangles and the kind of explosive choruses that have pinned the records to the turntable over the last couple of years. “Stoop To Me” has the band as close to folk as they’ve ever been, slaloming through the ‘90s slipstream of college rock wonders with an emphasis on fiddle player Chris Haigh’s string work. Still finding a way to wrap Richard Thompson’s heart in indie pop bliss, the band remains unmatched in their ability to lodge a hook in the head. Hard Life is out September 11th from Merge.
