Diary – “Keep Coming Up”
It’s been nice seeing the new generation skew baggy. Following Britpop turns from GUV this year on top of works form Aluminum and Dummy last year, the latest dip into the Brit-boiled edges of the ‘90s comes from Brooklyn band Diary. The group only hinted at the possibilities on early singles, but they hook deep into the Manchester sound on “Keep Coming Up.” With a rhythm riot underneath their smeared grooves, the band’s first taste of the debut stretches from The Roses and Mondays through shades of The Charlatans and just a hint of early Secret Machines. The band’s spent some time in the singles mines for sure and the fist crack of the new album feels like the start of something good. The debut, Spiral Bound, is out September 4th from Kanine Records.
