The Odyssey Cult – “The Yeti’s Eyes”

It’s been killing me to sit on this one, but happy to share the news today of a new record from Ethan Miller and a cast of similarly deep-seated heads in the Silver Current scene. Miller’s been using the name The Odyssey Cult for a few years now as a jam-centered starting point with fellow-Comets alum Ben Flashman. The pair swells the ranks on Volume 3 to offer up their first proper album, a psych and skronk stunner that’s got more than a few notable names floating in its ether. First single brings vocals from Inna Showalter (Magic Fig, Witney’s Playland) and sax scratch from Zoh Amba. The rest of the record is rounded out with contributions from Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Anthony Taibi (Carlton Melton), Brigid Dawson (Osees), and Paula Frazer (Tarnation). The first single sets the stage for the album, a lightning strike of psych that’s singed in the fire of Miller’s guitars, set soaring on Taibi’s keys, and cooled in the humid hum of Showalter’s gauzy vocals. The new record sets its site on the turntable for August, already poised to be one of the year’s heaviest hitters.
