The Freebies – “Friends”

Another West Coast jangle gem, this time from L.A. rather than the breezing in off of the Bay. The Freebies have spent the last year corralling a debut into view and it’s packed with the kind of charms that keep Dolly Mixture and Marine Girls on mixtapes year over year and The Vivian Girls perennial favorites. “Friends” was the last single to step off before a self-released CD/Casseette and a Sub-Jangle issue hit last month. The song is a breathless blast of sun, swooping through the simplest ends of indie pop, duct taped and twine-tied with the best of ‘em. The genre loves a stripped back strummer and The Freebies are happy to oblige. The new eponymous new album is out now.
