Saapato – “Ferns Breaching Wet Soil”

Shining a light on another favorite from the Aural Canyon catalog, this time NY favorite Saapato slips through the seams with an album of ambient float. Already cemented as a source of serenity, serving seance in calm waves, Brendan Principato’s newest record as Saapato resets the calibrations for the week, turning the temperature down even as the sun starts to climb higher in the sky. The album is an exploration of Upstate NY environments through the Spring and early Summer, just the kind of record that hits close to home around here. There’s a dampness to Seasons turn Like Pages, a humidity that can course cold or lean into the sudden onset of swelter. Keys float in the air, thick and sonorous, constantly churning the currents of calm, tracing the rain down the face and the sweat down the neck. The season is green and that’s reason to celebrate. Saapato serves up the kind of vernal atmosphere that’s always in season.
