Rob & Ellen – “So Many Californias”

A longtime site fave, Rob I. Miller (Blues Lawyer, Dry Erase) returns with a new outfit, the duo Rob & Ellen, pairing with fellow Blues Lawyer Ellen Matthews. Stripped back but with a sunny disposition, the opener from the band’s debut EP shines as bright as the California sun. The band dips into a ramshackle but resilient form of indie pop, picking at the pores of power pop and scuffing it with seeds of early Lemonheads, solo Dando, and Sugar. The band’s debut is peppered with pearls; fuzz-sick rockers, strummed-out laments, and plenty of songs hung on finding one’s place. The record is stuck between leaving and hanging on, a transient record looking for a home. The opener sticks a little static in the mix, a loping strummer that’s got just a touch of the ‘90s scratched across the surface. The new EP is out now from Take A Turn records, a solid 7-shot of indie pop bound to brighten your day.
