ÖLÜM – “Yılan Kadın (Snake Woman)”

Every missive out of West Coast Anatolian psych unit ÖLÜM just cements the band’s commitment to the leathered sweat of the ‘70s. The band taps directly into the turbulence and rhythmic intensity of Turkish prog and psych at its peak and they do little to shy away from their homage to the era, draping every moment of “Yılan Kadın (Snake Woman)” and its accompanying video in the shag and shadows of the ’70s, a fevered vision of psychedelic reverie. Driven by bass, lacquered with farfisa, and flayed with riffs that would make Koray proud, the new single is the band’s best yet.
