Howlin Rain – “Silver Paper (feat. Chris Robinson)”

Great news for Howlin’ Rain fans today. I know this one has been in the works for a while and it’s great to see it come to life. With a cadre of covers as its basis, the new album swings back to the scrubbed-up vision of the band just post their major-label days. Exploring AOR favorites that informed the band’s sound over the years; from Mountain to Moby Grape, Rundgren, Walker and Hardin, the band also takes tender turns on Judee Sill and wraps the record with a cover of one of my favorite Dead-acolyte jams, “Rosali,” by Mountain Bus. The band sends the collection off today with a cover of “Silver Paper,” a longtime favorite from Mountain. The song features Chris Robinson on vocals, who returns to help out on Rundgren’s “Black Maria” as well. The album is rounded out with contributions from Ty Segall and David Nance alongside a stellar cast of studio players. The new record, Watermelon, is out November 13th from Silver Current Records.
