Mopar Stars – “Lifetime of Pain”

There’s plenty of ‘90s noise excavators, shoegaze diviners, and punk plunderers out there these days but when a band unravels the threads between nostalgia and nuance it’s always fun to watch. Mopar Stars have a love for the slacker tack of punk before it really hardened into grunge. The band lives in the cracks between Du, solo Mould, The Replacements, and Fanclub’s less pop-slicked moments. Their latest single “Lifetime of Pain” has a lovely lament to it. The song tumbles through strums, fizzes at the edges with amp fry, but at its heart this is a song built to help the listener endure. The Philly band’s got batch of sweet sighs on the way from K Records and Perennial Death later this summer. Official Researchers Of The NJ Devil is out July 31st.
