Sweat – “Hilary”

Sweat were staples around here following their 2023 debut, an album that pounced on the vamp and volume of ‘70s arena rock, glam, and power pop. The band’s mix of The Runaways’ larger than life presence and Cheap Trick’s pop snap are again on prime display for their first new single since that album. “Hilary” has the soul of the biggest vision of power pop, slathered in glam’s greasepaint smirk. Soaring harmonies from Sue Pedrazzi send the hook straight into the heart, while the band crunch huge hooks with leathered swagger through the amps. The band’s debut was the kind of homage that soared on its sincerity, but felt hard to top. It’s great to see that the band hasn’t lost a step on the follow up. The new single is out now on Tee Pee Records, with a new album hopefully soon to come.
