Spencer Cullum, Erin Rae & Hollow Hand – “Far Below the Willows”
Been sitting on this news since Spencer mentioned it this past summer and it’s great to see word of this album finally seeping out. A trio of favorites find comfort in their love of furrowed folk from Fairport to Steeleye Span, tripping into ambient undertones and shades of jazz. Spencer Cullum has long been a fixture on the site, having already secured a place in the 2026 conversation with a release from his Coin Collection ensemble. Here, he connects with fellow UK songwriter Max Kinghorn-Mills aka Hollow Hand. The pair had a long gestating idea for a collaborative album and eventually brought in Spencer’s Nashville compatriot and collaborator Erin Rae. The result is an album that’s akin to Coin Collection’s dark lines and haunted corners. They round out the sessions with an ace backing band including Dom Billet (drums), Harry Bohay (bass) and site favorite Rich Ruth (guitars/synths). The first single, “Far Below the Willows” wends its way through melancholy piano lines, the soft sweep of drums and Spencer’s quiet call of pedal steel. A touch of woodwinds set the song aloft on the breeze. The new record, Banquet Rock, is out February 26th from Full Time Hobby.
