Roman Norfleet and Be Present Art Group – “Headed On To Freedom”

The last few years have seen a few solid releases from Roman Norfleet, chiefly with The Cosmic Tones Research Trio and more recently with MerKaBa Brotherhood. He returns to his long-running outfit Be Present Art Group for a new record of Spiritual Jazz that’s rooted in liberation, resistance, and revolution. It’s narratives are knotted around historical figures and the necessity for constant resistance within the Americana context. As such, he keeps an an ear in the past and an eye on the future. First single “Headed On To Freedom” carries a marching beat and chanted chorus, side-slipping through ecstatic bursts of electric jazz . The new record, The Remembering, is out November 13th from Mississippi Records.
