The Goods – “Wing”

The new album from The Goods has been heavy in rotation over here. A mix of power pop wonders and bittersweet pop charms, the new single tends towards the melancholy end of the spectrum. Rob Good’s got a knack for bright, big ‘90s harmonies but he’s also got a soft spot for bruised souls and heavy hearts. “Wing” jangles with the best of them, but it’s soaked in sighs giving heart to the cast of sock puppets in the new video. As with quite a bit of the new album Good doesn’t play it as straight forward as some of his contemporaries, pulling form ‘60s sunshine psych, letting a mid-point breakdown set this single just as easily with newcomers like The Mellons and classic cuts from Curt Boettcher or Yellow Balloon. The single sits nicely among the gems on The Goods upcoming Goodbye Summertime, out September 16th from Dandy Boy Records.
