The Belbury Poly – “Dreamthief”

RSTB faves The Belbury Poly have slipped through many folds in the synth world, and while there’s always been an element of analog adventure, the feeling of ‘80s fantasy has rarely been as strong as it has on new album Sorcery. Album opener “Dreamthief” sets the tone, a dark dive into dank forests and the kind of swamps that would have been populated by Hensen creatures and a strange unease. The melodies draw the listener in, but this time Jupp is joined by Christopher Budd on bass, giving the works a tactile rhythmic feel. The song captivates from its first moments, a painterly dive into another world. The new record, Sorcery, is out September 25th from Belbury Music.
