2nd Grade – “Anywhere Girls”
Good news out of Philly today. After a stellar standalone single last month, 2nd Grade has announced a new album with another buoyant bout of power pop in tow. Peter Gill returns with the fizzing “Anywhere Girls,” part of a new concept record broken up into a Boys side and Girls side. Like the preceding single, this one takes up the ladies’ side, bouncing out of the speakers on spring-loaded legs. With a ‘90s pop heart, Gill latches onto a leaner vision of power pop, removed from the kind of leering swagger that can sometimes hover over the power pop’s past. It’s a joyous, sun-drenched sound that dives right into the heart of the genre. The new record also opens up the floor to vocals from fellow 2nd Grader, Catherine Dwyer (Spring Onion, Remember Sports), sharing the stage on their dig into twenty new songs of tumble-down glee. The new record, Girls and Boys, is out 10/30 (LP) and 12/4 (dig) from Lame-O Records.
