Ribs – “Cold Daylight”
by Andy
Another taught indie knuckleball from North Carolina band RIBS hits this week. Born and bitten by the fangs of post-punk, the band is serving up an indie offering that’s more gnarled than the average outing these days; fighting with the demons of The Fall and the long shadows of Empire and Swell Maps . They follow on their first couple of singles with the ashtray grit of “Cold Daylight,” a daybreak kick to the ribs that muscles through riffs before breaking open into a spray of guitar on the way out the door. The cut draws blood from the scabs of indie’s aughts heyday and the snug sutures of punk’s prickliest moments. The band’s excellent new album, Cold Ribs, is out August 21st from Three Lobed.
