Giraffe – “Catastrophe Music”

Cracking one more into the cosmic ether for today, the announcement for the debut from new outfit Giraffe comes with some deep psych-jazz cred attached. Built from players Dave Harrington (Darkside), Robert Walter (The Greyboy Allstars), Spencer Zahn, and Kosta Galanopoulos (Rio Kosta), the band finds Harrington in a post-Taper’s Choice pocket that’s sewn tight to the exploratory reaches of jam, jazz, and psych. The first single from the band lobs groove front and center, anchored by the rhythm section but never staying put, serving as a bedrock for Harrington’s guitar and Walter’s keys. There’s something neon, oil-slick and sweat stained about “Catastrophe Music,” a perfect introduction to the new band. The debut is a collaborative release between ORG and Aquarium Drunkard. The Towering Inferno With Bongo Drums is out August 21st.
