Prison – “Sunrise Highway (single edit)”
This one’s a psych scorcher from yesterday getting the good bump today. NY kiln-cured heavies Prison return with “Sunrise Highway.” This shortened version gives just a taste of the long and limber vision that the band has laid out for their new album. Comprised to two side-long tracks, improvised in the studio and showing off their dedication to the groove/blues/boogie/burnout of the ‘70s. The song gnashes with the turbulence of Groundhogs at their best with forays into Pink Fairies, Can, and Grease Band. The lineup on Big Rigs on the BQE brings together familiar faces; Sarim Al-Rawi, Matt Lilly and Paul Major are joined by Mike Donovan on fuzz organ, percussionist Ryan Sawyer and Matt Leibowitz (back on bass, and synth too this time). Even cut down to a shortened dose, “Sunrise Highway” tosses the listener into a maelstrom of sound that promises to get thicker the longer we linger on the full album. Big Rigs on the BQE is out July 31st from Drag City.
