P.P. Rebel – “Ascension”
by Andy
A second single from P.P. Rebel, the new outfit from Paris Rebel Richens (Parsnip, Hierophants) brings a sunnier sound, less threaded with the VU veneer of the first. Instead “Ascension” leans into a breezy brand of ‘60s pop. It’s a sweet single, a joyous celebration that draws on Richens’ inspiration from Yogananda’s Cosmic Chants, children’s refrains, and ‘60s pop from Incredible String Band to Free Design. It’s hard not to be charmed by the song’s loping rhythms and hand-rocked feel, swaying through the duration with the buoyancy of a bouquet of balloons. The band’s debut, Devotee, is out October 2nd from Anti-Fade.
