Briar – “As The Morning Burns Away”
by Andy
An unexpected shift this week from site favorite Daniel Romano. The songwriter has a history of swapping genres, usually moving from punk and garage to country and the soul-draped end of rock. As Briar he makes a turn towards harmony-hued folk. With Carson McHone and Tommy Major, both from The Outfit, he takes an autumnal swerve towards ‘70s folk that brings to mind Judee Sill or The Roches. The lilting first single from Briar joins a growing cadre of wood-paneled folk that’s been filling the speakers over the past few years making a comfortable shelfmate for Beefheart & McQuinn, Sylvie, and Fuses. The new album, Aeterna Memoria, is out October 30th from You’ve Changed Records.
