Hunter Watts – “I’m Lost Without You (live at Valentine Recording Studios)”

A few weeks back Hunter Watts released the first single off of a debut EP, the plaintive “I’m Lost Without You,” a misty country ballad of rudderless lament. Hunter’s spent years backing up West Coast luminaries like Sylvie and Drugdealer, time well spent leading up to his honeysuckle-hued debut for Valentine Recording Studios. The label doubles as the hatching home for the EP as well. A golden age studio that was once home to The Beach Boys and Frank Zappa among others, it was reopened in 2015 and retains its analog warmth. During the sessions, the band, along with Hunter, shot some footage and alternate takes. On the live version notes Watts, “We thought it’d be great to try a version with a pedal steel instead of the Celeste. It ultimately became more of a hang than anything, with Will (Guitar) and Kai (Camera) as we waited for Tommy (Pedal Steel) to get there. But as a result Nic and Kai got to have some fun and pull out a few tricks.” The single kicks off his debut EP of the same name, out October 16 on Valentine Recording Studios
