Flowers Must Die – “Nåja”

A thunderous return from longtime faves Flowers Must Die hits the speakers this week. The expansive Swedish collective decamped to Silence Studios, built by the classic Swedish psych label of the same name. The rural environs fed into the fibers of the band’s new record, which arrives today on the storm and scorch of first single “Nåja.” Filtering in on a bed of noise that becomes a churning undercurrent for the single, the song locks into the band’s signature blend of rhythm and sax skronk. Steeped in the ’70s traditions of Trad, Gras, Kebnekajse, and other Silence alums, the new record seeks to carry on the torch from the fusion-fueled visions of the past. It’s a record for the heads with a deep love for pastoral psych, but one that’s not afraid to reach for cosmic expanses. The band’s new album Tystnad, is out August 16th from Rocket Recordings.
