Allah-Las – “Pt. Conception”

From psych landscapes and sun faded freakouts to surf soundtracks, Allah-las have never been ones to hang too tightly to the idea of what constitutes their sound. One thing remains in any incarnation though, and that’s a lived-in, lounged air that’s always on the right side of the sanguine seams of pop. The band’s latest was conceived with plenty of room in the reels to jam, feeling like a kindred spirit to their work on Self Discovery for Social Survival. Latest single, “Pt. Conception” choogles with a little JJ in its jowls but swaps country air for surf n’ salt at every turn. Just the right kind of song to beat the heat this week. The band’s new album, Sirenas, is out from Mexican Summer and their own Calico Discos label.
