Boris with Michio Kurihara – “Sweet Nō1”
All right, fair enough this is last week’s news, but it’s been busy around here and this one deserves the spotlight no matter what day it hits you. One of the landmark albums of the aughts was Boris’ excellent team-up with Ghost’s Michio Kurihara. Rainbow remains one of the most powerful records of the era, and a high water mark of ‘00s psychedelic scorch. The band issued that record alongside a follow up and promptly dipped out of view. Seems that’s not the only document left, though, and about a decade later the band reunited in Tokyo in 2018. Thankfully the tapes were running and the band’s set was documented for all of us far to unlucky to have been nowhere near Japan at the time. The set ran through the bulk of Rainbow alongside other songs from the Boris and Kurihara catalog. The band is in top form, bringing the heft that Boris was known for with the nimble touch of Kurihara’s more clouded work. The full show will be available on a 2xLP set, and Drag City has reissued Rainbow as well for the occasion. Don’t miss. Live at FEVER 20181229 is out December 4th from Drag City.
