Emmett Morris – ” Won’t Fool Me ”

Following a solid EP that caught hold of some cosmic country winds back in ’23, Canadian songwriter Emmett Morris has been stringing out some singles leading up to a new LP release, The Old Way. The record slipped out a couple of weeks back and it’s packed with hi-NRG roadhouse rippers that let some of the more back porch fare fade away on the Western winds. The record even ropes in a few RSTB familiar faces, including longtime site regulars Matthew ‘Doc’ Dunn and Julianna Riolino. The record shares a love of root’s-rippled rock with the latter and nips a bit of mixing help from James Matthew IV. The Canadian family affair does Morris well, and there are plenty of standouts here, but the pedal-down drive of “Won’t Fool Me” might be the best of the bunch. Big guitars rev like engines as Morris slips a classic twang on top and Julianna spars with him nicely on background vox. Dunn adds a rip of harmonica and the whole thing comes together like a windows-down classic that’s hard to deny. Emmett’s new record, The Old Way, is out now.
