Nick Mitchell Maiato – “Critical Mass”

Been a little while since I’ve heart from Nick Mitchel Maiato (Desmadrados Soldados De Ventura, One Eleven Heavy) but the songwriter is back this week with news of a new solo album on the way at the end of the summer. The record kicks into view with new single “Critical Mass,” a Cosmic American shakedown that’s bolstered by  an opening organ salvo by Grateful Dead midi-tech Bob Bralove. The song snakes around the listener, a slow-roasting ripple of guitar and bass that opens into instrumental ecstasy in the second half. The new album features more than a few familiar names, boasting guest turns from Tony Leone (Little Feat / Chris Robinson Brotherhood), James Toth (Wooden Wand), Hans Chew (One Eleven Heavy), and Aaron Feder (Cordovas, Terrapin Flyer). The new album, Náquera, is out August 21st from Kith & Kin.
