Kiwi Jr. – “Blowin’ Up” 
A mid-week indie pop sugar shock comes courtesy of Kiwi Jr. The band returns after a brief break to lay down their fourth album, another clutch collection of jangles n’ jostles threaded through with an ecstatic indie itch. The band leads the way with the title track, “Blowin’ Up,” a song soaked in maximalism and rooted in the constant crush of culture from all sides. Atop a tipsy organ, pace-popping beat, and the bright jangle of guitars the band lays into the saturation of our situation while winking to the band’s tip into a household name. As the band’s Jeremy Gaudet puts it, on “‘Blowin’ Up’ everything is dialed up to the max all the time. The planet, culture, economy, our bodies are always on the edge of exploding. But also at this same time… Kiwi Jr is about to blow up.”
The single leads the new album, a tumble of ten tracks that exemplify and amplify what the band has been gnawing at over the last few years. They didn’t come to the crossroads alone either. On the new album the band brought in enough friends and compatriots to fill the party barge, with Protomartyr, Stef Chura, Fred Thomas, Margaux Bouchaudon of En Attendant Ana, and Kerri Maclellan of Alvvays all making contributions. The new album, Blowin’ Up is out August 14th from K Records / Perennial Death.
