Wand – “JJ”

After the caustic sway of “Smile” Wand give the listener some space on “JJ.” The song has a slightly jazzed swing, a kind of “Planet Caravan” wetness to it that sloshes the listener. It’s a midpoint cool down on their new record and the slippery ambience is a moment to catch a breath and brew before the band dives back into the pulled prog atomspheres of the upcoming Vertigo. As Hanson’s solo works have gained more grit in the past few years, Wand has become more air-conditioned and coiled and that all comes to a head on “JJ.” The new album, Vertigo, is out July 26th from Drag City.
