Nap Eyes cap off their recent run of singles with a propulsive new cut that captures the band’s keen ear for aesthetics. Smeared and smudged under a lightly frothy veneer, the single chugs on a head-nodding beat, a reclined pop treat that bakes under the summer sun. Curls of organ cut through the haze while Nigel Chapman’s sand and scotch vocals lay out a tale of murky mystery. The cut comes complete with a new animated video from Dr. Cool, landing at the conjunction of absurd and engrossing. It’s a flurry of colors and a tale of zebra-led mayhem that’s as old as time. “Dark Mystery Enigma Bird” crops up on the band’s new album, The Neon Gate, out October 18th from Paradise of Bachelors.
