ML Wah – “Living Space (feat. Wednesday Knudsen)”
An amazing collaboration up on the dock today as longtime RSTB faves ML Was (Matt LaJoie) and Wednesday Knudsen join together for a track that caps off a new record by Matt. Following up on the piano-led works of his last ML Wah record, Mirrored Night, LaJoie found inspiration in a friend’s piano, working repeated phrases on the borrowed upright and overdubbing countermelodies performed as one-take improvisations. After working out the bones of the record he brought the piece to Knudsen who recorded five different takes for Matt to choose from. The end result finds Matt lacing all five takes over his recording, rather than selecting just one, panning throughout the speakers in an array of tones that lap at the listener with a comforting lament. The piece closes out Sight Unfolding, out November 22nd on cassette and limited lathe cut from Flower Room.
