Bonnie Dobson & The Hanging Stars – “Baby’s Got The Blues”

A pretty amazing single up on the dock today as RSTB faves The Hanging Stars announce a collaborative new album with legendary Canadian folk singer Bonnie Dobson. Probably most well known for her song “Morning Dew,” which has been covered by Jeff Beck, Fred Neil, Lulu, and minted into a certified Dead standard over the years, Dobson’s legacy is much more than just that song. The songwriter had all but retired until a few years back when she released Take Me For A Walk In The Morning Dew, a compilation of re-recorded material, traditionals, and some newer material. That began the road to today’s announcement of Dream, a full-length new LP with The Hanging Stars, an almost too perfect pairing that seems like something conjured from the dream in the title. The first single “Baby’s Got The Blues” finds Bonnie back in fine form, soaring above the sun-smudged psych from The Hanging Stars. The song bridges eras, a classic country folk sway that feels right at home with the current cosmic country revival. The new album is out July 11th from Loose Music.
